The Asahi Shimbun photo archives launched in 2010 to digitize about 20 million photos taken by the Asahi Shimbun and to promote the usage inside and outside the company. Television stations, textbook companies, publishers, etc. are the main business partners. As well as those domestic editorial usage, recently the pictures are used in corporate history publications, history chronology of prefectures and municipalities, and overseas media. Because digitization of photographs and bibliographic captioning require enormous labor and cost, expansion and development as a project become more important in order to continue the process. It syndicates the latest news photos and charts and the usage of video has also been growing over the last few years.
