This report provides an overview of the history on passing the historical records that were created and collected by The Government of Ryukyu Islands and the previous organizations which were under the American administration from 1945 to 1972 down to the Okinawa Prefectural Archives(OPA). Moreover it describes the projects regarding preserving, arranging, and making archives accessible to people after they were established by the OPA. The staff who are in charge of managing these records struggled to overcome the drastic changes of returning the administrative rights from the United States to Japan in 1972. Serious problems concerning environmental conditions, floods, and the amount of storage space are main issue. Finally it suggests future possibilities and perspectives.
