This paper summarizes the needs and challenges of networking with related institutions in terms of the characteristics of sports-related materials, and views the role of the Prince Chichibu Memorial Sports Museum in this area. Huge amount of sports-related material needs to be structurally archived. However, sports museums do not have professional staff, such as curators, and their infrastructure for collection and preservation activities is weak. One countermeasure which the Japan Sports Agency is considering is a shared database of sports materials. By using this to catalogue with common metadata and organize the stories of sports-related materials, we can expect new discoveries from sports-related materials. There is an urgent need for the Prince Chichibu Memorial Sports Museum to play the role of a national center through such a network.
