In Japan, the digitalization of not only national newspapers but also local newspapers have been progressing gradually. In this study, we collaborated with the Gifu Shimbun, which publishes a local newspaper in Gifu. The digital data of the Gifu Shimbun, which has been accumulated for 140 years since its first issue, was used to create educational materials for regional learning. As a result, it was found that the Gifu Shimbun has a large collection of images other than articles that can be used as teaching materials for regional studies. Our future plan is to create a system to make the Gifu Shimbun database available to all schools in the prefecture, and to promote its educational use.
