Regarding the current state of data mining in publishing, looking back on the process of digitization in collaboration with printing houses, using the 20 volumes of Shogakukan's Complete Works of Japanese Art, 2012~16, as an example. I want to highlight the critical business situation that art books face and the obstacles to their e-book sales, and consider the possibility to operate their digital archives just completed, then build business plans. Compared to Europe and the U. S., which are more advanced in the respect of intellectual property law, it is still difficult to use works of Japanese art in publishing when the copyright protection has expired. As a solution, I propose restrictive provisions so that digital archives can become a part of the public interest.
