Abstract
Asphalt facing type dams and reservoirs are required to secure the imperviousness of joint sections between asphalt facing and concrete structures such as dam cut-off, intake, spillway, etc., through accurate agglutination. It is reported that in cases where external force applied to the interface of asphalt and concrete are causing stripping or sliding, the strains around the interface enlarges and cracks appear in the asphalt facing. This report proposes the optimum design and construction method of the joint sections by proving the joint structure of asphalt facing and concrete based on the results of material experiments and construction site pavement experiments conducted at upper reservoir construction of Omarugawa pumped storage power station.
