In recent years, institutions of higher education have engaged in various projects aiming to address the rising importance of “industry-university cooperation” and “community-university cooperation.” These concepts hold that a school ‘s collaboration with external experts in research activities will yield a value-added education, and such collaborative projects have proved beneficial in the field of engineering education. With this in mind, the authors oversaw a number of collaborative projects with industry and public institutions (museums, etc.) , seeking to promote research activities in education. In this paper, we outline our approach to industry-university cooperation and its educational effects through an analysis of a questionnaire administered immediately prior to the 2014 and 2015 graduations. The results were encouraging, as most students held favorable opinions of the collaborative projects, citing the clarifications of the respective positions of engineering and industry and clarity of objectives as the major benefits. We can, then, discern another positive effect of collaborative projects such as the ones conducted during the course of this study, specifically that of raising students ‘ motivation. Furthermore, the collaborative projects can improve student ‘s presentation and communication abilities through the several discussions with the collaborative partners and checking each other ‘s work in the laboratory.
