Abstract
Lectures on "organic synthesis" as a design subject have been conducted since 1997. The students were given typical examples of organic synthesis to solve by their ability of deductive inference from the principle which dominates organic reactions instead of relying on their memories of individual reactions. This process showed that students have an inclination to directly rely on memories of knowledge they have already acquired. It took about 2 months before they showed signs of using their own deductive mechanism to try to solve the problems. This proved that knowledge and logic to increase deductive abilities could be taught through the design subject. We also arranged the mutual relationship between such faculties as deductive ability and creativity.
