The powder medicine taking method in water restriction, utility of the Simple Suspension Method

Abstract

Background: In general, a water restriction will cause a thirst problem, however, there are some reports that a simple suspension method can give a medicine to a person by using a little amount of water when disaster. Objectives: In connection therewith, we tried to examine utility of the simple suspension method in water restriction by comparing respectively the amount of drinking at the time of taking a medicine in both cases of 1) the powder medicine group and 2) the simple suspension method group. Further, in both of the above mentioned cases 1) and 2), lactose was taken in the adults who were not in the course of a dental treatment, and then measurements of the water intakes were made to each of 10 adult- testees consisting of 5 males and 5 females whose average age was 34.2 ± 5.7 years old. Incidentally, in the above case 2), the lactose which had been in advance suspended in a warm water was taken in the adult-testees.  Results: When taking the medicine in the simple suspension method [the case 2)],the amount of drinking was usefully small (p<0.05). Regression formulas the powdered medicine group: y=35.1x+40.7 (x<1.0g), y=8.3x+66.4 ( x ≥1.0g). the simple suspension method group: y=34.3x+15.2 (x<1.0g), y=7.0x+42.7 (x ≥1.0g) (the x: taking amount [g], y: amount of drinking [mL]). Conclusions: As mentioned above, it can be made clear that the case 2), the simple suspension method group will be able to reduce the amount of drinking as compared with the case 1), the powdered medicine group. It also made clear that the use of the Regression formulas will be able to roughly estimate the amount of drinking.
