Non-stationary signals must be represented in the time-frequency two-dimensional plane, because frequencies of those signals evolve in time. In this study, four representative methods(Spectrogram, ED, RID, WT)are applied to the two-dimensional analysis. Chirp and impulsive signals, both simulated and measured, are analyzed by those methods. Comparisons are made among them, and it becomes clear that the kernel function of ED and analyzing wavelet of WT influence directly on the resolution of two-dimensional analysis, and results obtained from RID and WT are most favorably to extract relevant information from the signal.
