In traditional English thesauri, it is difficult for a user to choose from a synonym list, adequate words which can be used in his/her context. To resolve this difficulty, this paper designs and implements an English thesaurus database system with evolving semantics of words. The salient feature of the thesaurus database system is that it keeps track of word evolution from the Proto-Indo-European to modern English.
