In this study, the distribution of PH-1126 (Hamari Chemical Co. Ltd. Osaka), a new photosensitizer, has been investigated in ENU-induced rat glioma model that is more similar to human glioma to gain more insight into the role of PH-1126 in photodynamic therapy (PDT). The uptake of PH-1126 in cerebrum and tumor tissues was measured at intervals from 2 to 96 hours after intravenous administration of 10 mg/kg, using Excimer Dye Laser endoscopical fluorescence spectrophotometer.
The sequential PH-1126 incorporation into brain tumor was greater than that into cerebral tissues. A maximum level of PH-1126 in the brain tumor was seen at 24 hours after its administration, while cerebral cortex and white matter showed no response to fluorescence. The results suggested that PH-1126 is a new potent photosensitizer in PDT for gliomas.
