Effects of Nd: YAG laser on the umbilical cord were studied for hemostasis after cordocentesis. The umbilical cords which were obtained from 11 healthy pregnant women were made 10 cm long and applied 20 mmHg pressure with saline or saline with ICG (0.1 mg/ml). Furthermore, these 10 cm long umbilical cords (N=32) were connected with the differencial gage to measure volumetric flow of leakage. After punctures of 20 gauge needle, laser irradiation (6w;40sec)with Nd: YAG laser were performed on the puncture holes. When applying pressure with saline, laser irradiation gave no change on the puncture holes and volumetric flow of leakage. When applying pressure with saline with ICG, however, laser irradiation made the puncture holes shrink and made volumetric flow of leakage smaller. We think laser irradiation with Nd: YAG laser is useful for hemostasis after cordocentesis.
