The relationship tetween pharmacological effects and inhibition on monoamine oxidase (MAO) by p-methylphenyl hydrazine (MPH) have been studied and following results were obtained:
1) When 10-20 mg/kg of MPH were administered for a long period of time, the development of guinea pigs were depressed and it caused damage in liver and kidney.
2) A administration of MPH caused acceleration on respiration and depression on heart movement, while no effect on blood pressure in dog.
3) By the administration of a large dose of MPH, the spontaneous movements of intestine and uterus were depressed, while by a small dose of it, the movement of uterus was accelerated.
4) MAO activities in liver and brain were inhibited remarkably by the administration of MPH in vivo and in vitro.
