To reveal the effect of heating on anti-restenosis drug delivery to vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs), we investigated uptake of Oregon green labeled paclitaxel in SMCs with heating. Figure 1 shows the microscopic images of SMCs. The drug uptake in SMCs increased with increasing of the drug contact duration and drug concentration around the cells. When the cells were heated with 40℃ in 5 s and contacted with the drug in 60 min, the drug uptake in SMCs significantly increased. Uptake ability of the SMCs didn't change with 50℃ and 60℃ in 5 s heating. We think that heating the cells with 40℃ in 5 s promotes the drug uptake in SMCs due to activation effect of mild stimulation to the cells.
