Optical motion capture system is the gold standard of motion measurement with high accuracy but has some disadvantages such as high price, limit of measurement location, effects of ambient light and troublesome calibration task. On the other side, with the development of MEMS technology, small inertial sensors that can measure 3D acceleration, angular velocity, and geomagnetism have become available. These sensors make it possible to measure motion information at the location where the sensor is mounted. However, due to sensor noise or offset it is difficult to accurately estimate the velocity, position, and angle by numerical integration. This report outlines the basic method of optical motion capture system and wearable inertial measurement system, and measurement result using these measurement systems.
