Adsorption gels for strontium(II) ion was prepared from pectin rich orange juice residue and those for cesium(I) ion were prepared from polyphenol rich biomass such as persimmon tannin and waste of astringent persimmon after extracting persimmon tannin as well as tea leaves rich in catechin, another kind of polyphenol compound. Due to high adsorption capacity and selectivity for these radioactive elements, polluted water containing dilute concentration of these metal ions can be expected to be effectively decontaminated by using these bioadsorbents.
