The impact of logistics business on the environment has become a global issue of increasing concern, including developed and developing countries. This concern has been shared not only by environmental groups and legislators but also by customers, local communities, suppliers, financial institutions and employees. As a result, environmental sustainability has become a critical issue for logistics service providers. Mozambique is no exception, as the regulatory framework demand among others several measures to protect and preserve the environment. Currently, in Mozambique, attention has been given to the Nacala Corridor with a railway operated by Nacala Logistics companies, transporting mainly coal. Nacala Logistics companies comprise one of the major investments made in Mozambique, made possible through the shareholding presence of companies such as VALE SA, Mitsui & Co. (2014-2020) and CFM (Ports and Railways of Mozambique). Along years of operation, NL companies have contributed a lot to the local and regional economy and social wellbeing. However, logistic activities often lead to several negative environmental impacts. Therefore, it is worthwhile to study the adoption of EMPs of Nacala Logistics companies, especially with the lack of research in developing countries. The aim of this study is to assess the adoption level of EMPs by Nacala Logistics Companies and identify the potential factors affecting the adoption of these practices.
