Evaluation of collection efficiency based on the actual situation of door-to-door collection method in Fukuoka City

In Fukuoka City, “door-to-door collection method” has been adopted for a long time. It has been highly evaluated by the citizens. However, “door-to-door collection method” has a disadvantage in terms of collection efficiency. The purpose of this study is to clarify why “door-to-door collection method” has been able to continue until now, and whether it can be continued stably in the future. As the first step of survey, the current status of the efficiency of collection work was evaluated. The results from our survey were as follows; 1) The average collection time per tonnage of waste in case of door-to-door collection is 1.4 to 2.4 times longer than the simulated station collection. 2) It is still possible to have longer collection time in station collection depending on the local characteristics such as the existence of narrow-width roads, the division of the collection area. 3)The working time for door-to-door collection is 1.2 to 1.5 times longer than station collection, but it’s rate is smaller than the rate by Matsuto. It is due to the difference in the characteristics of collection area such as the distance between houses and the collection system such as night collection in Fukuoka City.
