As elevator rope has little damping, it may be excited greatly at the resonance frequency due to earthquakes. It is not easy to install a damping device to the rope because the elevator moves up and down. In this paper, a new damping device which consists of a spring and a magnet is proposed. Furthermore, the relation between modal analysis and transfer matrix analysis was theoretically explained by Lorrain development, and the utility of latter one for the model in this paper was described. Then, the effect of the proposed device was verified by using impedance.
