Tandem-type multiple magnetic suspension system is studied in this paper. In this system, several floators are suspended in series by an electromagnet. The controllability and observability of the system that has arbitrary number of floators are proved. A tandem-type multiple magnetic suspension system was fabricated in order to exam the controllability and observability experimentally. In the fabricated system, magnetic suspension units that include a sensor and an electromagnet are used instead of floators. To realize the complete tandem-type multiple magnetic suspension, basic trial is carried out using the fabricated system.
