The conscious processing hypothesis, a human psychological feature, states that when performing an automated complex task, performance is lower when awareness of the task components is increased. Therefore, not suitable driving assistance information leads to low driving performance. A possible method for providing information to the driver is to specify the acceptable deviation from the target. However, it is not clear to what extent humans drive strictly according to the target. In this research, we focused on the concreteness of driving instruction. The effect of varying the concreteness of the instruction on lane-keeping performance on straight road and curved road was investigated in real car testing. The results showed that instruction with higher concreteness may lead to higher performance on the straight road. On the curved road, the results showed that instruction with higher concreteness may lead to low-velocity driving. On the other hand, other factors may have influenced this phenomenon.
