This paper describes a new web-based engineering system that enables the effective utilization of product design knowledge and tools during engineering product development. The system consists of three subsystems : (1) knowledge database that is virtually integrated by knowledge sharing system, (2) analysis/design tools that is supported by process navigation system, and (3) desktop interface through which designers access and share information and tools. The system is applied to air conditioner design group, elevator design group and pomp system design group, and contributing to improvements in product performance and reductions in design cycle time and cost.
