Industrial products make various sounds, and the sounds cause people comfortable or uncomfortable. In our study, we measure the brain activation response using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and quantify senses of discomfort about the sounds. In this paper, we describe the measurement of the brain activation response using NIRS when the subjects listen to engine sound and sign sound. The results show that the oxy-Hb of the temporal cortex in the left hemisphere increased when the subjects listened engine sound of sharpness or brightness.
