There is a jump in the demand of LNG (liquefied natural gas) as alternative energy of oil. When LNG is vaporized, it releases a great number o cold energy. From the energy saving viewpoint, the utilization of LNG cold energy is very important for the refrigeration industry concerning low temperature region. As the purpose of the utilization of LNG cold energy, the heat storage system with phase change due to direct contact using an aqueous solution has been presented here. Two-phase changes of evaporation of R134a and freezing of the bulk are occurred at the same time. First, in order to clear the effect of vapor phase on freezing of the bulk, the solid-liquid direct contact heat transfer with sublimation has been investigated using dry ice. Next, relating to the utilization of LNG cold energy, the liquid-liquid direct contact heat transfer with evaporation has been investigated.
