The HTR-10 is a pebble-bed high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) with nominal thermal power of 10 MW. The fuel management of the pebble-bed HTGRs requires the simulation on the physical features of the running-in phases of the HTGRs by using the physical calculation methods. Moreover, the methods used in the HTGR physical analysis are required to be verified according to the operation data of the HTR-10. The difficulty of the simulation is the complexity and irregularity in the running-in phase of the HTR-10. Based on the operation data of the HTR-10, the simulation on the running-in phase of the HTR-10 is implemented by using VSOP, the HTGR analysis code. In the simulation, the power history and the fuel cycling procedure are traced in detail, and the changes of the control rod position and the thermo-hydraulic parameters are also traced, in order to calculate the detailed physical and thermo-hydraulic states of the core at different moments and. Some special skills are utilized to overcome the complexity of the running-in phase of the HTR-10. The results of the physical calculation consist with the real operation features well. The method presented in this work is important to the studies on the HTGR physics analysis and the operation and analysis of the HTR-PM.
