An analytical model to predict the constitutive behavior of particle dispersed composites is developed in the framework of continuum damage mechanics. The damage evolution and damage effects on the mechanical behavior of composites have been attracted many researchers' attention and various kinds of damage model have been developed. However, most of them are based on the assumption that a debonded particle could be replaced by a void of equivalent size, which is unrealistic in most cases. In this study, an analytical model to predict anisotropic damage behavior of particle dispersed composites is developed using damage effect matrix proposed by Chow and Wang. The validity of the new analytical model is checked through comparisons with experimental results.
