Low fracture toughness of a hydroxyapatite (HA) ceramics is a serious drawback when it is used as bone filling material. In this study, we selected fibrous nano-carbon materials with high biocompatibility as reinforcements. 0.5vol% Carbon nano-tube (CNT)/HA and 0.5vol% vapor growth carbon fiber (VGCF)/HA has same fracture toughness with HA. In addition, bending strength of CNT/HA and VGCF/HA are lower than HA. Each material formed bone-like apatite on their surface when they were soaked in the simulated body fluid (SBF). For 3 days the surface of them completely covered with apatite. Bending strength of HA soaked for 4 weeks in the SBF were lower than that soaked 1 week in the SBF and lower than human bone.
