This paper deals with the modal analysis of out-plane vibration of a thin rectangular orthotropy plate under uniform tension with two opposite edges simply supported and the other two edges free. Effect of the uniform tension on the natural frequencies of the plate is analytically derived. Results of analytical considerations enable estimation of number of modes in the target frequency range. Considering features of modal functions, algebraic equations are derived from two boundary condition equations. These equations are not only satisfied with characteristic roots but also can be easily solved by numerical calculation. Thus, the natural frequencies are efficiently calculated in the proposed scheme.
