The purpose of this study is to utilize unused low-temperature waste heat for space cooling in air conditioning and industrial cooling using an absorption cooling cycle. Conventional absorption chillers require an 80~90 °C heat source to supply 7~8 °C chilled water which is suitable for air conditioning. So “double-lift absorption cooling cycle” has been proposed to reduce the lower limit of an available heat source. In this study, we developed a proof-of-concept prototype of a double-lift absorption chiller. This prototype consists of two absorbers, two generators, a single condenser, and a single evaporator. All of these elements take the form of falling film heat exchangers. The working fluid of this machine is H2O/LiBr, the same as general absorption chillers. In this paper, we described the results of the performance test and characteristics measurement for the cooling water temperature. As the results of the performance test, chilled water with 7 °C outlet was obtained by supplying 60 °C heat source hot water and 30 °C cooling water. At these conditions, cooling capacity was approx. 7.0 kW. This paper is based on results obtained from the Future Pioneering Program "Research and Development Project for Innovative Thermal Management Materials and Technologies"(JPNP15007) commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
