Electrodes removal phenomena of EDM are important factors which are influencing the efficiency and the accuracy of the process. Distribution of total discharge energy into electrodes is an important subject to explain those performances. However, energy distribution in case of micro EDM has never been reported yet. In this work, the method to obtain energy distribution into electrodes in micro EDM will be explained. Due to size effect there are some difficulties in the measurement of energy distribution in micro EDM. In the present work, plural pulses discharge arc were ignited on a Cu foil workpiece. Then, the measured and the calculated results of temperature rise on the workpiece were compared to determine the energy distribution into electrodes. The energy distribution into anode and cathode was 5% and 2.5%, respectively. It was found that energy distribution into anode is greater than into cathode like macro EDM, and that the energy distributed into electrodes is smaller than in macro EDM. Most of the total discharge energy was believed to be consumed in the formation of plasma channel in case of micro EDM.
