The purpose of this study is to construct performance design system for mass production. Assembly performance is defined as a degree of functional achievement. To establish performance design system, firstly performance function is introduced and assumed that this function is known. The performance of mass produced assemblies is defined as an expected value. Statistical Tolerance Index is introduced to control performance. This index controls mean and standard deviation of component dimension. Performance design is to specify limit of this index on engineering drawing. Some of problems are solved and case study is presented and realization of performance design is verified.
