An attempt was made to develop a forming technique for nano-polycrystalline diamond (NPD) using a pulsed fiber laser that can form NPD into a single-point cutting tool with a nose radius of 0.4 mm. A face turning test revealed that the NPD tool was applicable to the cutting of cemented carbide with a hardness of 1350 Hv. The flank wear width and wear volume of the NPD tool with a rake angle of 0 degrees and a clearance angle of 10 degrees were 58% and 22% of that generated on a conventional single-crystal diamond (SCD) tool when the cutting depth, feed rate, cutting speed, and cutting length were set at 25μm, 10μm/revolution, 20 m/min, and 4 km, respectively.
