The main objective was to study the potency of palm oil as an MQL lubricant in the drilling of this material. Investigation revealed that the MQLPO (palm oil) produced lower thrust forces and drill temperatures than the MQLSE (synthetic ester). This was due to the formation of thin boundary lubrication film and the reduction of friction at the tool-workpiece interfaces. Finite element approach is used to study the effect of machining conditions on thrust force and temperature distribution. Results for the thrust force are compared with the experimental results and are in a good agreement.
