Abstract
BDF (Bio Diesel Fuel) contributes to reducing the concentration of CO_2 in the atmosphere because it is a carbon neutral fuel. Moreover, BDF which has drawn attention as an alternative fuel containing a lot of oxygen promotes the combustion of diesel engines compared with using gas oil, hence the improvement of thermal efficiency and the decrease in the amount of PM exhaust can be expected. However, the atomization characteristics in the case of BDF are worse than gas oil because the kinetic viscosity is high, and the PM emission tends to increase compared to using gas oil. In this research, the relation between the operating conditions and exhaust gas characteristics were examined in the performance tests by the diesel engine with the common rail fuel injection system that can change fuel injection pressure by using gas oil and BDF. As a result, the operating condition in which the exhaust gas characteristics were improved by using BDF was confirmed.
