Kaohsiung Cross-Harbor tunnel is the only one tunnel which installed motorcycle exclusive lanes in Taiwan. Since the motorcycle lanes are located higher than car lanes and has no emergency exit, the users of the lane can be in more dangerous situation than those in the car lane mainly due to smoke. In the present study, the dangerous characteristics of motorcycle lanes are clarified by CFD analysis. In the case with 2 m/s longitudinal ventilation, smoke height remained more than 2 m high within 100 m from the fire source in the car lane, so that the evacuation environment safety was ensured. Meanwhile, smoke height was less than 2 m high within 300 m from the fire source in the motorcycle lane, which is clearly more dangerous.
