This study evaluated the mechanical properties of the surface degradation of polycarbonate (PC) which was exposed in outdoor (i.e. Tokyo, Okinawa, and Arizona) for long period of time. We made several degradation samples which was exposed in the outdoors for 3 to 24 months. An indentation test was conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties of surface degradation, especially the Young's modulus, yield strength, and fracture toughness quantitatively. It was found that outdoor exposure period encourages hardening and embrittlement of PC surface. Furthermore, FT-IR method was carried out to measure the molecular structures on the material surface, and the relationship between the molecular structure and mechanical properties changed due to degradation was investigated.
