Abstract

There has been a rapid deployment of renewable energy systems such as photovoltaic generation systems in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Soma IHI Green Energy Center was opened to supply electricity to the sewage treatment plant and waste incineration plant, which are power-consuming facilities, using solar power generation, which is a renewable energy source. Since the generated power cannot be reverse-flowed to the system outside the center, it is necessary to use up the power inside the center. Therefore we started an initiative for local production of energy for local consumption. We have demonstrated that the surplus power of PV power generation can be used up without reverse power flow by controlling each facility such as charging and discharging storage batteries, hydrogen production using a water electrolyzer and steam production using an electric boiler.
