There was a sense of crisis among those involved due to the decrease in the number of researchers and engineers involved in screw research and technological development. To address this problem, the Japan Screw Research Association established a nine-member committee for human resource development in 2020 and began preparations to open a "Screw University. There are two courses: an engineer course and a standardization course, but the engineer course was established first, and education for the first batch of students began in September 2022. Every year, about 6 to 8 students apply to enter the school. Admission requirements are those with an understanding of high school mathematics and physics, and students must be members of the Japan Screw Research Association at the time of enrollment. The curriculum started with three courses: A: How to Use Screws, B: Screw Testing Practice, and C: How to Make Screws, but later added D: Comprehension Test, and at present 38 courses are offered. The duration of the program is two years (maximum three years), and the graduation requirement is 70 credits, including required courses. Upon graduation, students are awarded an MFT (Master of Fastening Technology). The Japan Screw Research Association hopes to foster human resources who will support future screw research and technological development.
