Adsorption of biological molecules on a surface is an important issue. In this study, we developed an alcohol polymer using air-borne plasma-induced reaction to adsorb biological molecules on various surfaces. The reaction dissociates not only alcohol molecule but also nitrogen and oxygen in air, forming an ionized alcohol-based polymer instantaneously. The application of thermal treatment to the polymer reveals that the transparent liquid 1-butanol polymer gradually gains viscosity at less than 50℃ and transforms to a solid between 100℃ and 150℃. This ionized polymer, whose properties are thermally controllable at low temperature, will be particularly useful to fix biological molecules on various surfaces without damage.
