Techniques to improve the position mode seek performance for hard disk drives are presented. An ideal feedforward controller design is explained. Feedforward terms can be experimentally determined to yield smooth transition to the track-following mode. Optimization based on linear programming (LP) is proposed. It is experimentally proven that the LP method has yielded superior performance.
