A wireless communication system for exchanging various in formation through wearable electronic devices is needed for the personal area network. Intra-body communication, which uses the human body as the transmission medium, allows wireless communication without using airborne radio waves. A human arm phantom was designed and used to reduce uncertainty in experiments with the human body. The phantom showed transmission characteristics similar to those of the human body at frequencies between 1 and 10MHz. The transmission of digital vital signs data at 9600bps was performed using newly fabricated intra-body 10.7MHz frequency shift keying (FSK) transmitter and receiver.
