This study revealed fatigue strength characteristics of thermal sprayed WC materials and investigated anisotropy between the surface and the cross section. Cyclic indentation tests were performed for the surface and the cross section. Cracks grew in the circumference of the impression in the tests on the surface; on the other hand they vertically grew against sprayed direction on the cross section. As maximum surface stress increased, cyclic number for the crack initiation decreased in both tests. Besides, it was found that fatigue strength were slightly higher on the cross section than on the surface. In conclusion, thermal sprayed WC materials clearly have cyclic fatigue behavior and remarkable anisoiropy.
