Single track model is a widely-used vehicle model for lateral control design. To enhance the accuracy of single track model, equivalent cornering stiffness which considers the wheel alignment change is used. Meanwhile, the load transfer occurring when the vehicle turning decreases the vertical load of the outside wheel and increases the vertical load of the inside wheel. The load transfer changes the force acting on the tire and affects the vehicle motion. In this study, equivalent cornering stiffness which takes into account the influence of the load transfer in addition to the wheel alignment change was proposed. The equivalent cornering stiffness was calculated by the vehicle model and the tire model considering the dependence on the vertical load. Single track model applying proposed equivalent cornering stiffness was used for vehicle dynamics simulation and the validity of proposed equivalent cornering stiffness was evaluated. The results indicate that the accuracy of single track model was enhanced by applying proposed equivalent cornering stiffness.
