We have proposed a decision making model for online scheduling based on task delays which can be a measure to determine a suitable timing of rescheduling. This paper deals with efficiency of such task delays in rolling schedules strategy. In the strategy, a multi-period scheduling problem is solved by using rules automatically obtained from training cases and only the first period's schedule is applied, then the multi-period model is updated one after another. We investigate the effectiveness of our delay-based approach by applying it to job shop scheduling with random machine breakdowns.
