Conceptual designs of handling systems for the geological disposal of HLW were performed to confirm the technical feasibility under assumed geological formations. Because of the high dose rate of waste, most of the functions must be performed remotely with high reliability. In this study method to perform each function was evaluated and selected with the consideration of handling object, zoning and adaptability for the remote operation. And then, specifications of the equipment that executed the function by the selected method were settled, and conceptual design for each equipment was performed. Parts of this study were sponsored by Japanese 10 Electric Power Companies.
