Volatilization of carbonate in Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell (MCFC) is thought to be one of life limiting factor. Overcoming them is requested to attain the avail operating time for commercialization. The carbonate as electrolyte for MCFC is disassociated with hydroxide and carbon dioxide during operation. CO_2 is easily released. Vaporized alkali hydroxide cannot be seen more than melting point, of which MCFC operating temperature is 600-650℃. The visualization technique was applied to investigate, the behavior of vaporized alkali hydroxide. When well-known'volume of CO_2 is injected to vaporized alkali hydroxide atmosphere less than 400-600℃, alkali carbonate is rapidly yielded. The fine particle of alkali carbonate can be taken image of metal halide lamp and YAG laser by CCD camera. The mechanisms of alkali carbonate formation are investigated by means of the image analysis.
