Excitation control eddy current testing (ECT) is applied to inspection of pipe wall thinning in this study. To simulate the pipe wall thinning in nuclear and thermal power plants, SUS316 austenite stainless steel plates have been machined with rectangle or semi-circular grooves. Based on ECT experimental resutls, excitation control ECT with well-controlled excitation parameters is not only possible to size the depth of rectangle grooves but also the depth of semi-circular grooves. ECT numerical analysis based on reduced magnetic vector potential Ar method is also performed to confirm the experimental results.
