The PDMS-based microfilter chip for extracting blood plasma was developed successfully. Designed for "Portable" health care devices such as blood tests, this microfilter chip based on the cross-flow filter design succeeded in trapping RBC and extracting blood plasma during supplying a given sample of human blood. An annular micro channel enables to circulate RBC and to prevent a deformation of RBC under pressure. The filter has a double-layered structure and the height of the slit of the filter was adjusted to under 5μm so that RBC (approximately φ8×2μm) might approach transverse to the filter. Since this PDMS-based microfilter chip was fabricated using usual soft lithographic techniques, it is easy to mass-produce it at relatively low cost.
