Abstract

In recent years, many robotic hands are studied for life support robots worked around human. For these applications, high safety is very important because there are a lot of situations to contact persons physically. To solve this problem, an extremely lightweight soft gripper with pleated structures made of plastic films has been developed. However, maximum gripping force is largely decreased by the size or shape of target objects. In order to avoid the decreasing of force, re-making to suitable gripper for each target object is needed. In this paper, to achieve both the wide graspable range and high grasping force, we propose the helical inflatable gripper winding spirally utilizing the wire drive system.
